The exhibition “There and Back. Pilgrimages of the Livonians in Medieval Europe” is open at the Wittenstein Museum in Paide until April 13. The exhibition brings together material on the pilgrimage culture of medieval Livonia, presenting to the public a large part of the finds related to pilgrimages known from Estonia and Latvia, as well as the written and artistic heritage. As a result, it turns out that our pilgrimage culture, which was based on personal piety, was significantly richer than previously thought in terms of both the places visited and the practices of pilgrimage.
On April 12 (Saturday) at 1:00 p.m., we invite those who are interested to the Wittenstein Museum to attend a lecture “Popular Pilgrimage” by archaeologist and research director of the Estonian Literary Museum Tõnno Jonuks. Admission to the lecture is free.
